Richard Webby is the Vice President of Engineering for Savos Inc., a New York-based wireless technology and services company that provides PC-free, personalized access to Internet audio programming from any mobile phone or wireless appliance. His past experience includes a variety of research, management, and engineering roles. Most recently, he was a Research Scientist in the Software Engineering and Statistical Modeling Research Group of Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore â€“ Bell Communications Research). At the University of New South Wales, he was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Systems, where he was also held the posts of Deputy Director of the Centre for Advanced Empirical Software Research and Acting Director of the School's co-operative education programs. He was a visiting researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software engineering in Germany and at the University of Maryland in College Park, US. His background also includes strategic management consulting experience at Booz, Allen and Hamilton and Andersen Consulting. He received his PhD in Information Systems from the University of New South Wales in 1994. His research interests lie in the fields of empirical software engineering, telecommunications, and judgmental forecasting. In particular, he is interested in studying and improving the forecasting and estimation processes involved in planning complex software and telecommunications projects.
Despite his surname and an avid interest in the Internet, Richard has no connection to the famous Webby Awards, hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by worldwide media. However, he would appreciate it if someone from the Webby Awards would send him a T-shirt.
